Trump Backs Lindsey Graham’s Sister Darline Nordone for Interim Senate Seat
Following the death of 71-year-old South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham from an aortic tear over the weekend, President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he has recommended Graham's sister, Darline Nordone, to serve as the interim senator until January. Graham, who never married, shared an exceptionally close lifelong bond with Nordone, legally adopting her when he was 22 and she was 13 after both of their parents died within a 15-month span. While South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster is scheduled to hold a news conference to announce the formal interim appointment, fellow South Carolina Republican Senator Tim Scott has already expressed his support for Nordone, calling her a "wonderful placeholder" as several other Republican candidates prepare to run in November for the permanent seat Graham was originally seeking re-election for.
